The yacht essentials - Tips for an enjoyable stay on a superyacht

Your next superyacht experience is around the corner, but what should you bring with you and what the yacht etiquette is?

Pack for every occasion

Embark with an open mind and cover all bases, but be wary of taking too much. The one absolute-must-have is the swimsuit. Pack as many as you think necessary. Soft-sided bags are easier to carry and handle. Sunglasses, hats and sun protection are essential. However even if you’re traveling during the summer, there are still cool nights so you need a light jacket. Also consider outfits for the unexpected excursions or the last minute invites for cocktails.

Bring the necessary legal documents

Passports and visas (if required) are essential if you are traveling outside your home country. Make sure you also bring proof of your booking.

Pay attention to safety

The captain’s and the crew’s ultimate goal is to secure your safety and ensure you’re having an enjoyable voyage. Take the time to listen to the personnel’s instructions as these might be critical for the itinerary.

Tips for the crew

The vessel’s employees are assigned to various serious tasks and they should be treated with respect. The crew gratuity is customary in case they have met or exceeded your expectations. Normally tips are around 15% of the total yacht chartering rate.

Communicate with your chartering expert and the crew

If you have any medical conditions, dietary requirements or points worth sharing, please communicate these to our team before departure. The same applies to last minute changes while you are aboard. Make sure the captain is involved in any short notice change of plans, including itinerary or arranging dinner for additional guests.

The no-shoes policy

It really depends on the yacht, but the general rule is walking bare-feet along the vessel. The reason for it is mainly maintenance and damages that could be caused by the heels and hard soles. In some cases you can wear soft-sole shoes provided they are brand new and not worn outside of the vessel.

Respect the rules

Illegal activities cannot be tolerated as penalties might apply to the yacht owner and captain. Smoking in most cases is prohibited inside the cabin, but there are dedicated areas in one of the decks, so clients can enjoy their cigar.
